Daily Post: Toot Your Horn

Daily Prompt: Most of us are excellent at being self-deprecating, and are not so good at the opposite. Tell us your favorite thing about yourself.

My favorite thing about myself…hmmm… that’s one I’ve got to think on for a bit…

Ok, got it.

One answer here would have to be my regard for other people. I find that people are generally becoming more and more selfish. They think the world should revolve around themselves and the only thing that matters is what they want. They show no regard for the potential effects of their actions on other people and they don’t seem to care about that as long as they get what they want. A little pessimistic viewpoint perhaps, but an observation none the less.

I often forgo fulfilling my personal needs if it means someone else can get something they want. One piece of pizza left and you want it? I would like it, but that’s okay, you can have it. You can’t see the scenery out the window, I will trade places with you. In my view, issues are often simple to resolve. If I can do something to help another person get what they want, it will make them happy to get it and additionally their joy is usually increased by someone being nice to them. If I don’t get to see the view, sit in the better seat, be first in line or whatever the issue, it doesn’t bother me because I am happy being able to help someone else out. Maybe, in a way, that’s a bit self serving on my part? People usually don’t understand getting joy from helping others and they criticize me for being “too nice,” but I don’t see it as being “too” anything… it’s the way I think we should all act. You know “Do unto others” and all.

Words of the day: empathy, compassion

  2. It is sad to me that someone would criticize someone else for being “too nice.” I agree with you wholeheartedly…. I think that’s how we all should be. Good for you and God Bless you for the help you give to others.

  3. Being nice to others is good not only for the recipient but its good also for yourself.recently i had been through worst but the memories that people remember me for the help that i offered them when they needed it most replenishes my strength to fight the ordeal. Stop thinking about others and do what you think is right . keep helping others because it comes back in some or the other form.
